Special Investigative Service Responds to Arushanyan's Defense Claims
The Special Investigative Service (SIS) has issued a statement responding to claims made by the defense of the accused, Arushan Arushanyan. Today, the defense released a manipulative declaration expressing confusion as to how investigator Mejlumyan of the SIS made decisions to involve Arushanyan as an accused and to apply detention as a measure of restraint, while according to their provided materials, the head of the investigative group for this case was a different investigator.
In its statement, the SIS emphasized the public's right to receive impartial and complete information, and deemed it necessary to clarify that on July 10, 2021, the preliminary investigation of the criminal case was assigned to an investigative group led by investigator Kh. Mejlumyan, who assumed the case the same day. Documentation in the case materials confirms that Kh. Mejlumyan was indeed the head of the investigative group at the time criminal prosecution was initiated against Arushanyan. This is evidenced by a record dated July 15, 2021, which was signed by the accused and the defenders, regarding informing them about the composition of the investigative group.
Thus, it is undeniable that Arushanyan's defense attorneys were fully aware that the head of the investigative group was Kh. Mejlumyan, who made the decisions to involve Arushanyan as an accused and to apply detention as a measure of restraint. In light of the above, it is evident that the statement disseminated by Arushanyan's defense is merely a cheap tactic aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the objective course of the investigation,” reads the statement.
