Messi to Stay at Barcelona for Another 5 Years
Argentinian forward Lionel Messi will sign a 5-year contract with FC Barcelona, according to reports from Spanish media. The new contract for the 34-year-old Messi is expected to last until 2026, and his salary will be reduced by 50 percent. Under his previous contract, Messi earned 550 million euros.
In the completed season, Messi participated in 47 matches for Barcelona, scoring 38 goals and providing 14 assists. Throughout his career, he has scored 691 goals while playing for Barcelona, appearing in 724 games, and he has also netted 70 goals in 138 appearances for the Argentina national team.
On July 11, Messi won his first title with the Argentine national team by becoming the champion of the Copa América. This victory marked Argentina's first Copa América win since 1993. With this triumph, the Argentines matched Uruguay and became Copa América champions for a record 15th time.
