Fabricated and Unserious: Arushanyan on the Charges Against Him
The first instance court continues to examine the prosecution's request to detain Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan. In a conversation with reporters in front of the court building, Arushanyan stated that he has no predictions regarding the court's decision. According to Sputnik Armenia, he stated, "I won't make any predictions; I think it will be the same, they have set a task and are fulfilling it. The charges are fabricated, they are unserious."
Arushanyan's lawyer, Erik Alekanyan, noted that the case is purely political and that there are no legal proceedings involved. "We are not dealing with legal issues here; we are dealing exclusively with political persecution. This entire process is formal; however, we are obligated to defend Arush Arushanyan's constitutional rights," he added.
It should be noted that the Goris Mayor has been charged under Article 35-154.2, Part 4, Point 2, Article 38-149, Part 2, Point 4, and Article 38-154.2, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code (violating the secrecy of voting and obstructing the exercise of electoral rights).
