Ready to Stand by Our Government and Authority: Leader of 'United Homeland' to Pashinyan
During discussions with a number of extra-parliamentary political forces, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the leader of the 'United Homeland' party, Mher Terteryan.
Pashinyan noted in his speech: “Dear Mr. Terteryan, I am pleased to see you and thank you for accepting the invitation. The 'United Homeland' party participated in the early parliamentary elections. International observers have qualified the recent elections as compliant with the standards of democracy, and the citizens of the Republic of Armenia expressed their will. We also perceive this situation as an opportunity to consolidate our public and national potential to solve the problems facing our state. In this context, we value the activities of both the political forces that passed into parliament and the involvement of extra-parliamentary forces. The purpose of these political discussions and consultations is to hear the viewpoints of political forces, including yours, regarding the further direction of Armenia's political life. According to you, what can we do to make the government, extra-parliamentary forces, and your party more audible, so we can put valuable ideas into a stream of implementation? We do not hold the view that only those forces that received the most votes in elections have valuable ideas. We know that there are good thoughts and ideas, and if they are willing to share, clarify, detail, and persuade with arguments, we are certainly ready to create conditions for their implementation. So, this discussion is very important.
In turn, Mher Terteryan said: “Thank you for the invitation. During this electoral period, we aimed to present our vision and possibilities for the future to the public, to our nation. We consider our task accomplished, as we have brought new theses to the field, highlighting areas such as military development and, in this context, the defense industry. We have talked about how we envision the future in terms of economic development and village-oriented programs, and we have specifically focused on organizing correct and effective work with the diaspora. I welcome your initiative to consolidate political forces after the elections. This will also bring quite a positive effect, as the understanding of unity among our people will be further strengthened. It is indeed a commendable initiative; of course, I agree with you that we must work very precisely and delicately in terms of the application of approaches and methods so that consolidation can take place. Personally, starting from 2017, I demonstrated through my work that regardless of political views, I am ready to stand by our government and our state authority, to support with my knowledge. I hope that today we will also have the opportunity to discuss these works separately.
