Russian Peacekeepers Hold Humanitarian Action in Haterk Village, Artsakh

In the Haterk village of the Martakert region in Nagorno-Karabakh, the officers of the Humanitarian Response Center and military doctors from the special medical unit of the Russian peacekeeping forces organized a humanitarian-medical event. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Near the village hospital, military doctors set up a pneumatic frame module to serve as a field medical center, accommodating local residents waiting for the arrival of Russian military doctors to provide quality medical assistance.

“We have around 1,600 people, including children and the elderly. Four doctors, two therapists and two pediatricians, are here. We seem to be managing, but there is a huge need for specialists, especially an ophthalmologist and an ENT specialist; the shortage is simply catastrophic,” said Alek Makyans, head of the Haterk rural hospital.

Doctors from the special unit provided consultations and quality medical assistance to around two hundred patients from the village. Additionally, everyone was able to take an PCR test for Covid-19.

“Residents of Haterk requested humanitarian assistance. It was decided to send a team of specialists, including an ophthalmologist, an ENT specialist, an orthopedic surgeon, and a cardiologist, to provide humanitarian assistance and medical consultations to the residents of this area,” said Marat Khatagov, head of the medical unit.

Employees of the Humanitarian Response Center also held an action distributing food packages, essential items, warm clothing, and children's toys to large families, internally displaced persons, and local residents in need.

“A total of 61 families took part in the action today, of which 30 are internally displaced persons, 20 are large families with five or more children, and the rest are families in difficult circumstances,” said Ruslan Ivanov, a representative of the Humanitarian Response Center.

In total, seven and a half tons of cargo were distributed during the humanitarian action.

It is noteworthy that on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan reached an agreement on the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, and a statement was signed transferring seven regions of Artsakh, Shushi, and Hadrut to Azerbaijan, except for one village, as well as villages from the Askeran and Martuni regions, and the Haterk region’s Talish and Mataghis villages.
