COVID-19 Cases in Armenia to Double Every 7 Days, Says 'Zhoghovurd'

COVID-19 cases in Armenia are expected to double every 7 days. This was announced by Gayane Sahakyan, Deputy Director of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in an interview with the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper.

“The reproductive rate of the virus has been steadily increasing in our country. There was a time when the reproductive rate was between 0.3 and 0.4, meaning the virus was hardly spreading and the situation was relatively calm. But today, it is already at 1.3, or rather 1.29, which indicates that each infected person is spreading the virus to at least one other person. This means that the virus is now spreading,” she explained.

“We can observe this trend in the numbers. There was a time when, with a reproductive rate of 0.4-0.5, the number of cases dropped to 40-50 per day. However, today that number has exceeded 100. This increase will initially go unnoticed, but there will come a point when it will grow exponentially, and our cases will double every 7 days,” the expert elaborated.

In response to a question about the 'Indian variant,' she stated that upcoming studies will reveal which subtypes are circulating in the country.
