Armen Charutyun Transferred to Vardashen Penitentiary

Armen Charutyun, a candidate for deputy from the 'Hayastan' alliance and the director of Izmirlian Medical Center, has been transferred to the Vardashen penitentiary. According to a statement by his attorney Erik Aleksanyan during a conversation with reporters, he was moved on July 3.

‘His health situation is not good. He has diabetes,’ Aleksanyan stated. The attorney emphasized that when Charutyun was moved to the penitentiary, there was a relevant medical referral indicating that he needs medical supervision, which is currently not being provided.

‘Measures are already being taken to transfer him to the Prison Hospital,’ added Aleksanyan.

Armen Charutyun, included in the list of candidates for deputies from the 'Hayastan' party alliance, was arrested in connection with a criminal case being investigated by the RA Investigative Committee regarding allegations of coercing employees of the Izmirlian Medical Center to participate in the extraordinary parliamentary elections, under suspicion of committing a crime as outlined in Article 154.2, Part 4, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code (bribery of voters, receiving bribes, violating the prohibition of charity during elections, or obstructing voters from freely exercising their will).

On June 23, the court approved the petition submitted by the investigator of the Investigative Committee to select detention as a measure of restraint for Armen Charutyun. Charutyun does not accept the charges against him.
