We Urge You to Conclude a New Insurance Contract Before the Expiration of the Current One: Police Announcement
The police have issued an announcement stating: "The road police inform that from July 6, 2021, the administrative responsibility for each ten days, which entails a fine of 5,000 drams for not concluding a mandatory car insurance contract, will be resumed due to the state of emergency declared on March 16, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the state of martial law declared on September 27, 2020, due to the war activities that commenced on the same date.
We remind you that:
1. According to Article 5 of the law on ‘Mandatory Insurance for Liability Arising from the Use of Motor Vehicles’, every individual must constantly have a valid mandatory insurance contract for each motor vehicle registered in the Republic of Armenia that they own (or is provided through a financial lease).
2. According to parts 1 and 2 of Article 129.2 of the law on administrative offenses of the Republic of Armenia:
- Not having a valid mandatory insurance contract for the vehicle registered in the territory of the Republic of Armenia for more than ten days results in a fine for each ten-day period, amounting to five times the minimum wage (5,000 drams).
- Driving a vehicle on public roads in the territory of the Republic of Armenia without having a valid mandatory insurance contract for that vehicle incurs a fine of one hundred times the minimum wage (100,000 drams).
We urge you to conclude a new mandatory insurance contract before the expiry of the current one (immediately after registration if you acquire a new vehicle); if you do not operate the vehicle, please hand over the registration certificate and license plates in accordance with the established procedure.
