Seven Citizens Hospitalized in Gyumri with Symptoms of Anthrax

Seven citizens have been hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Gyumri with symptoms of anthrax. According to Armenpress, suspicions regarding anthrax symptoms emerged on June 30 in the Isaakyan village of the Ani region, Shirak province. The administrative head of Isaakyan village, Artavazd Arsenyan, reported that six large and as many small cattle had been recorded as dead in the village.

"Seven residents of the village have been hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Gyumri. The entire herd has been re-vaccinated against anthrax. There are currently no new cases," noted Artavazd Arsenyan, stating that although they have not yet received an official lab report confirming the diagnosis of anthrax, the symptoms of the hospitalized individuals and the deaths of the livestock indicate otherwise. "There are suspicions, but we do not have confirmation yet. Their condition is normal at the moment." The hospitalized patients are those who had handled the carcasses of the dead livestock and processed their meat.
