Doctors Go House to House Collecting Slaughtered Meat and Burning It: 'Siberian Plague' Sparks Panic in Village
In the village of Isahakyan, Shirak province, doctors are going house to house in search of the 'Siberian plague', collecting slaughtered meat and burning it. This is how they are combating the dangerous disease that had been eradicated for years.
As reported, seven individuals have been hospitalized at the infectious disease hospital in Gyumri. Artavazd Arsenyan, the administrative leader of Isahakyan village, provided new details about those infected in an interview with Lurer.com. “On June 30, four men and one woman were hospitalized with a diagnosis of 'Siberian plague', and the next day, on July 1, another man and a woman were admitted. The infected individuals were of middle age, 35, 40, and 45 years old. Those taken to the hospital were slaughterers, those processing the meat, and buyers,” said the village head.
He emphasized that he visited the hospital today to check on the health status of those infected with the 'Siberian plague'. “Siberian plagues have developed on various parts of the residents' bodies. Their condition is currently of moderate severity,” Arsenyan noted.
In response to our question about the possibility of an increase in cases of 'Siberian plague' infection, Artavazd Arsenyan stated that he holds an opposing view. “I believe that the cases of infection will completely disappear in the village, as the entire village population was vaccinated against anthrax yesterday. Now if they fall ill within three days, it means they have the disease; if three days pass and no livestock has died, then everything is normal,” the village leader mentioned in the interview.
He assured that all safety regulations are being followed, and special teams of doctors have been formed to go house to house. “We strictly adhere to all protocols; all those who transported slaughtered meat home have been collected and burned. We hope that this virus will leave the village soon,” Arsenyan added.
It should be noted that Rustam Simonian, the veterinarian of Isahakyan village, committed suicide on the morning of July 1.
