VIDEO: We will show who is guilty; this was an artificial war, we will prove it - Robert Kocharyan
I would like to thank the citizens who have trusted us and given us their votes; we truly have a very quality voter base. This was stated today by the second President of Armenia and the leader of the Armenia Alliance, Robert Kocharyan, at the first general assembly of the alliance.
“I am proud that we have gained the trust of this voter base, and this is invaluable. We should all appreciate this, and all of it has been thanks to our team. Despite numerous pressures, you have taken on responsibility and fulfilled it,” he noted.
Kocharyan also emphasized that the results were unexpected for the alliance, and forecasts had been different, as all surveys depicted another picture. “A question arises as to why there is an evident discrepancy between expectations and what we saw, and there are two options: people do not express what they think, which is also bad for the state, indicating that the atmosphere in the country is such that citizens cannot freely express their opinions; the second is that a machine of fraud operated during the elections, which ensured quite a volume of falsification,” stated Robert Kocharyan.
He also mentioned that about 200,000 votes are in question, and they are preparing to appeal to the Constitutional Court, awaiting further developments. “The authorities went to the elections without fulfilling any promises; that same authority lost the war in which we had thousands of casualties, and a healthy society should not vote for the re-election of a government after such results,” he noted.
Kocharyan also highlighted that the feature of the snap elections was that the authorities did not speak about future plans, nor was there any mention of democracy, while the governing political team's meetings did not have the same energy that was present in 2018, and there were not many meetings.
“Democracy was one of the main themes of 2018; their slogan was about the future, but there was no discussion of the future in their speeches, and this is a fact. He also referred to the events of 2018, stating that at that time, people voted with great hope for the future, believing that there would be changes, that the country would rise, and that citizens would be the beneficiaries.
“These elections presented the opposite picture; there was no hope or faith in the future during these elections, and all surveys indicated that we have a depressive mood,” he remarked. Robert Kocharyan also noted that there has been significant polarization among different voter demographics, leading to such results. “People became concerned that the old regimes were returning, and this anxiety intensified when the three presidents participated and campaigned in the elections,” he added.
