Cases of Infection with Unknown Strain of Coronavirus Registered in Russia
In the Chelyabinsk region of the Russian Federation, cases of infection with the "British" strain and another unknown strain of COVID-19 have been recorded. "Interfax" reports that Svetlana Luchinina, head of the regional department of "Rospotrebnadzor," provided this information.
"At the beginning of June, we sent 44 samples for analysis. Three strains of the coronavirus were identified—two 'British' and one of still unknown origin," she stated, adding that there has not yet been a description provided for the unknown strain, which is still under investigation. She also noted that the Indian 'Delta' strain has not been identified in the region.
At the same time, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, reported that cases of infection with the 'Delta' variant of the virus have been recorded in Russia, with the infected resident having a mild course of the disease.
Overall, more than 5.4 million cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in Russia, with over 134,000 resulting in death.
