Armenia and Belarus to Collaborate on COVID-19 Drug Development
Armenia and Belarus will jointly implement six scientific and technical projects from 2021 to 2023, including in the fields of medicine, biology, and energy, specifically working together on the development of COVID-19 medications.
As reported by Armenpress, citing BELTA, this was discussed during a joint session of the Armenian-Belarusian Scientific and Technical Commission held on June 28, chaired by Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus, and Sarkis Hayotsyan, Chairman of the Science Committee of Armenia.
The projects will include the use of computer screening technology, molecular modeling, and biochemical analysis to develop new potential medications for treating coronavirus infection.
“By combining the efforts of our scientists, we can create high-tech developments more quickly, as well as new products,” emphasized Shumilin.
The parties also discussed the scientific, technological, and innovative prospects, along with the organization of scientific events in both countries.
The scientific and technical cooperation between Armenia and Belarus has been developing under an agreement reached between the governments of the two countries on October 31, 2000.
