Why a Drinking Water Crisis Has Emerged

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that on June 22, the issue of a lack of drinking water emerged in several regions of Armenia, drawing the attention of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia.

According to the company "Veolia Water," the interruption in water supply is due to voltage fluctuations in the electricity supplied by the Armenia Electric Networks. In turn, the electric company insists that the voltage deviations occurring in several substations could not have caused disruptions in the water supply system.

"Zhoghovurd" has learned that the commission has begun to investigate the reasons behind the drinking water crisis. Sergey Aghinyan, a member of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, stated in an interview that they plan to meet this morning with the chief engineers and technical directors of both companies: "We have given them time to gather information from all sources."

When asked what would happen to the Armenia Electric Networks if it turns out they are indeed at fault, Aghinyan replied, "If the Armenia Electric Networks is to blame, and if a large number of consumers have suffered, then that already warrants a fine. However, this will be clarified after the investigation."

More details will be available in today’s issue.
