Armen Charentsyan, Candidate of the 'Armenia' Alliance, Indicted and Detained
The Special Investigative Service of Armenia has reported that Armen Charentsyan, a candidate from the 'Armenia' alliance participating in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, has been indicted and detained.
This action comes in connection with a criminal case about pressure exerted on employees under his authority during the pre-election period, which was revealed through a recording circulated online. Based on sufficient evidence collected, the indictment was made under Article 154.2, Part 4, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code, which pertains to using official dependency to coerce participation in elections and vote for political coalitions.
On June 21, 2021, charges were formally brought against Charentsyan. On the same day, an application was filed by the investigator of the Special Investigative Service to the court to select detention as a preventive measure against Charentsyan, which was approved by the court on June 23, 2021.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
