Kotayk Is No Longer Under Tsarukyan's Influence: 'Hraparak'

The newspaper 'Hraparak' writes: 'Traditionally, the Kotayk region has been under the influence of Gagik Tsarukyan, and the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) has been a leader in almost all elections in the region. For instance, in 2017, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) won in all regions except Kotayk, where the BHK was the frontrunner. Only after the revolution, in the parliamentary elections of December 2018, this tradition was broken, and the BHK lost to 'My Step' party.

According to the results of the elections held on June 20, the frontrunner in Kotayk is again the ‘Civil Contract’ party, which received 63,388 votes, or 52.51 percent of the total. In second place is the Armenia alliance led by Robert Kocharyan, which garnered 25,622 votes, or 21.23 percent. The BHK comes in third with 9,760 votes, accounting for 8.09 percent of the electorate. The 'I Have Honor' alliance received 4,282 votes, or 3.55 percent.

It is noteworthy that this is the first parliamentary election since its establishment in 2004 in which the BHK has not made it into parliament. For reference, the BHK received 50,416 votes, or 3.96 percent. In contrast, in the 2007 elections, they received 204,000 votes; in 2012, 454,000; in 2017, 428,000; and in 2018, 104,000 votes.
