If One of Pashinyan's MPs Leaves, the Ruling Faction Will Lose Its Stable Majority: 'Hraparak'
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan must protect his elected MPs as if they were his own eyes, to prevent any thoughts of leaving the team. If one MP departs, the ruling faction will lose its stable majority and will have to cooperate with two opposition forces to pass laws. This time, the opposition is very radical and will be different from the former Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) and Bright Armenia Party (LHK), making it difficult to find common ground with them.
As is known, constitutional laws require a two-thirds majority of MPs to be adopted. In the future parliament, there will be 107 MPs, meaning two-thirds equals 71 mandates, which is precisely how many the Civil Contract Party (KP) will have in the National Assembly. Moreover, a two-thirds majority is also required for constitutional amendments. Thus, aside from changes to the Constitution, they can pass any law with their own strength, provided they can maintain the unity of their faction.
It should also be noted that if the opposition does not refuse their mandates, one of the two vice-president positions of the National Assembly will go to the Armenia Alliance, and 3-4 out of 11 permanent commissions will also go to the opposition,” the newspaper writes.
