Azerbaijani Soldiers to Return to Permanent Deployment Areas in Gegharkunik, Russian Border Guards to Be Stationed
We will carry out border demarcation and delimitation and address all issues in this direction. This was stated by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, in an interview with Radio Liberty on June 22, in response to a question about whether it is true that the conversation about the deployment of Russian border guards is not only about Gegharkunik but also from Sotk to Syunik and Lake Sevan.
He clarified that Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers will return to their permanent deployment areas, and Russian border guards will be stationed in those areas. “After that, the process of demarcation and delimitation will begin,” Grigoryan noted.
According to him, negotiations regarding the deployment of Russian border guards in Gegharkunik are ongoing. “I urge you to wait for the results of the negotiations,” the official added.
He explained that after the resolution of the issue, there will probably be no need to deploy border guards anymore. “When the work on demarcation and delimitation is completed, Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards will be stationed there,” Grigoryan concluded.
