Cavusoglu hopes that the new Armenian government will "learn lessons from past mistakes"
The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has commented on the snap parliamentary elections taking place in Armenia. While speaking at a diplomatic conference in Antalya, he expressed hope that the government formed as a result of the elections would "learn lessons from its country's previous mistakes."
Cavusoglu stated that Armenia must take steps toward ensuring stability in the region. “We hope that Armenia will understand that the only way to establish peace and stability in the world and the region is to maintain friendly relations with the countries in the region. Armenia should cease to present regional ambitions to its neighbors and start building good relations with them,” he said, noting that after the 44-day war in Artsakh, Baku and Ankara are “ready to make efforts to establish peace and stability in the region.” Furthermore, the Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized that this is “beneficial” primarily for Armenia.
