As of 3:00 PM, the Office of the Human Rights Defender has received 59 alerts and applications related to the electoral process and examined 570 publications on June 20, the day of the extraordinary elections of the National Assembly of Armenia.
The alerts received through the Office's hotline primarily pertained to the accessibility of polling stations, the impossibility for persons with disabilities to independently present themselves at polling centers, issues related to including voters in additional lists, violations of voting procedures, and more.
Among the problems frequently reported through social networks and media publications were violations of the procedure for providing ballot papers, cases of directed voting by citizens, including military personnel, and violations of the established form of ballot papers.
Based on the alerts and results of continuous monitoring, representatives of the Defender have conducted several rapid responses, including quick response visits. Specifically, discussions have been held and clarifications obtained from the Central Electoral Commission, the Ministry of Defense, and the Norq Interior Home.
Visits have been made to police divisions, including rapid response visits to regional police subdivisions. Contacts have also been established with human rights NGOs as necessary. Special attention has been given to ensuring the unhindered work of observers and journalists.
It should be recalled that the working group established by the Defender's order has been conducting independent monitoring of the electoral process since early morning, both at the central office and in the Shirak, Gegharkunik, Syunik, and Tavush regional subdivisions.
In addition to the mentioned regions, representatives of the working group have been dispatched to Syunik region to study potential complaints related to electoral rights in Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions and to respond promptly as necessary.
