Prosecutor Submits Request to CEC for Consent to Deprive Armen Charentsyan of Freedom

The prosecutor overseeing the legality of the pre-trial investigation has submitted requests to the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Armenia regarding Armen Charentsyan, seeking consent to initiate criminal prosecution against him and to deprive him of his freedom, considering that he is a candidate for the National Assembly. This was announced by Gor Abrahamyan, an advisor to the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Armenia, on his Facebook page.

"As previously reported, in connection with the case being investigated by the RA Investigative Committee regarding the alleged coercion of employees by the head of a medical institution to participate in the early parliamentary elections, Armen Charentsyan, included in the list of candidates from parties participating in the elections scheduled for June 20, 2021, has been arrested on suspicion of committing a crime under point 2 of part 4 of Article 154.2 of the RA Criminal Code.

Sufficient evidence has been obtained in the criminal case confirming the fact and content of the incident captured in the recording. Armen Charentsyan admitted to the fact of a conversation with colleagues on the morning of the day of his arrest.
