Assurances About Uncovering Voter Ballots and Potential Threats Are Unfounded: Chief Prosecutor's Office of Armenia
The analysis of data obtained from specific criminal cases indicates that during meetings with voters, certain individuals have claimed that there are sociological and statistical mechanisms or formulas capable of revealing how individuals voted in the upcoming snap elections. This was stated in a release from the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Armenia.
Considering that such manifestations may occur ahead of the snap elections for the National Assembly of Armenia scheduled for June 20, 2021, it is important to inform that the confidentiality of voting is a constitutional right of every eligible voter. Any violation of this right, or any action aimed at revealing a voter's ballot or coercing disclosure of that vote constitutes a criminal offense, punishable by a term of imprisonment of up to 5 years.
It is essential to understand that the specific outcome of a voter’s ballot, whether while in the voting booth or afterwards, cannot be uncovered through any technological or methodological means. All polling stations will implement the necessary supervisory measures to technically exclude such possibilities.
As a result, assurances and warnings regarding the possibility of disclosing voting outcomes through such means are unfounded, seeking instead to instill fear among voters and exert moral-psychological pressure to coerce them into casting their votes in a certain way or presenting evidence regarding their votes.
Citizens preparing to participate in the elections can be fully assured that the confidentiality of their voting is guaranteed, and any attempts to breach this in any way will result in severe criminal liability.
Thus, the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Armenia urges voters not to believe any warnings about the disclosability of voting results, to resist these psychological manipulations, and to cast their ballots in accordance with their own convictions. We also call upon anyone who witnesses or encounters potential preparatory actions aimed at gaining access to voting results, on the day of voting, to immediately report to law enforcement authorities.
