Biden and Putin Issue Joint Statement
US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a joint statement following their meeting in Geneva regarding strategic stability. The text of the statement was released by the press services of the Kremlin and the White House.
“Today we reaffirm our commitment to the principle that there are no winners in a nuclear war and that it must never be unleashed,” the statement read. It also noted that the extension of the New START treaty demonstrates a shared approach to controlling nuclear weapons.
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that to prevent a nuclear war in the future, Russia and the US will initiate dialogue on strategic stability. “Through this dialogue, we aim to lay the groundwork for further arms control and risk reduction,” the statement added.
It is worth mentioning that the Biden-Putin meeting lasted several hours, after which the Russian president described the meeting as constructive.
