About 50 Contract Soldiers Submit Resignation Requests: 'Haykakan Jamanak'
'Haykakan Jamanak' reports that while Armenia's Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discusses implementing reforms in the army and increasing the salaries of contract servicemen, there are mass resignation requests being submitted these days. According to our sources, the soldiers are dissatisfied due to a lack of basic conditions—neither accommodation, nor food, nor even bathrooms are available. Alongside these issues, the salaries are low, and many are struggling with debts. Despite promises from the authorities to address these problems while campaigning, the army is being depleted.
Our sources reveal that approximately 50 contract soldiers have already written resignation requests. To obtain clarifications, 'Haykakan Jamanak' spoke with the commander of the Gegharkunik Corps, Harutyunyan, who confirmed the existence of such applications. 'The process of submitting discharges has been ongoing for 5-6 months, but it is not related to service conditions. This purely concerns salary issues, family conditions, and it involves not only contract soldiers but also the officer corps. People have debts and a thousand problems, just like every citizen,' he mentioned.
The commander emphasized that, in any case, the situation at the border is not the issue. 'There are people who have submitted reports but are waiting for the situation to calm down because they do not wish to leave their unit; there are applications, and perhaps more will follow,' he added. Thus, on one hand, there are promises being made, while on the other, there is the reality.
