Public Television Company Issues Statement
The Public Television Company has released a press statement, which we present in full below:
“Up to this point, the Public Television Company has adhered to the principle of preventing apparent violations of third-party rights within the framework of electoral campaigning and, under the conditions of contentious legislative regulations, has refrained from showcasing episodes that pose legal challenges in cooperation with political parties and party alliances.
Yesterday, Public Television appealed to the Commission on Television and Radio, the Central Electoral Commission, and the Human Rights Defender for advisory opinions, aiming to ensure a clear and comprehensive legal approach in such cases.
Having examined the responses received from the concerned agencies, First Channel concluded that evaluating the content of electoral campaigning conducted by political parties and party alliances, in the absence of clearly defined criteria and boundaries by law, contains risks of subjectivity.
Therefore, the Public Television Company announces that it bears no responsibility for the content of the videos provided by political forces during the electoral campaign. Public Television will entirely broadcast the videos presented by political parties and party alliances without reviewing the potential legal risks contained in them.
However, First Channel calls on political forces to refrain from hate speech, keeping Public Television's airwaves clean.
The Public Television Company expresses gratitude to the agencies that provided advisory opinions.”
