Russian Embassy in the U.S. Responds to American Bombers Near Russia's Borders
The Russian Embassy in Washington has reacted to the deployment of U.S. Boeing B-52H Stratofortress bombers near Russia's borders during NATO's Baltops 2021 military exercises. The statement was published on Twitter.
Diplomats described the Pentagon's use of B-52H bombers, which are capable of carrying nuclear weapons, as yet another provocation. “This kind of ‘swinging of weapons’ escalates the situation in Europe and worsens the atmosphere ahead of the upcoming Russian-American summit. We urge the U.S. to reconsider its approach to European security and cease dangerous actions near Russia's borders,” Russian diplomats stated.
The Baltops 2021 naval exercises in the Baltic Sea began on June 6, with participants including Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
