Memorandum Signed Between Iran and Azerbaijan
On June 9, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mohammad Eslami, announced that a memorandum of understanding regarding the development of railway infrastructure between Iran and Azerbaijan was signed during a meeting with the Azerbaijani Minister of Economy, as reported by the Iranian news agency Irna.
Eslami confirmed that the memorandum aims to ensure more efficient operation of north-south and east-west corridors. He also mentioned that Iran is working to complete the expansion of the Rasht-Astara highway towards Baku, which will reduce travel time from 6 hours to 2 hours.
During his one-day visit to Azerbaijan, the official toured the railways and highways of Astara and Nakhchivan, as well as the areas that came under Azerbaijani control as per the provisions of the November 9 trilateral statement regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.
