Detention of Candidates for National Assembly
This morning, police officers used disproportionate force and violence against participants of a peaceful rally near the government building. This was announced by Aram Vardevanyan, the official representative of the 'Armenia' alliance central headquarters.
The statement also noted: 'About two dozen citizens have been detained, including candidates for the National Assembly. Despite the spread of hate speech by the temporary authorities and their representatives, and the misuse of administrative resources, we have consistently urged and will continue to urge our teammates to demonstrate proper conduct and not to succumb to provocation. Such violent actions by the police can be a provocation in this atmosphere. Furthermore, the police are obligated to uphold everyone's rights and public order, not to serve the authorities.'
'We warn those giving illegal orders and those executing them: return to the field of legality, eliminate the violations by such police officers; otherwise, you will bear personal responsibility for the illegal actions committed.'
