CSTO Secretary General on the Situation in the Border Areas of Syunik Province
The Secretary General of the CSTO, Stanislav Zas, has announced that the Collective Security Treaty Organization continues to monitor the developments along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, particularly in the border areas of Syunik Province.
He noted that the organization welcomes the parties' intention to resolve issues related to state borders through peaceful means.
“We see the prospects for establishing long-term peace in the region, while the risks of escalation remain,” Zas added.
According to him, positive shifts in the situation regulation have been observed in the Collective Security context in the Caucasus region over the past six months since the cessation of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
The CSTO Secretary General is confident that the presence of Russian peacekeeping forces and the efforts of international negotiators towards resuming comprehensive negotiations for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict create a foundation for establishing lasting peace.
“The situation on the ground is gradually stabilizing. What is important is that there is no shooting anymore,” he emphasized.
