Edmon Marukyan: We Do Not Ask for Your Votes to Come to Power, but to Empower Us to Bring Peace Between Two Opposing Forces
We are not asking for your votes to come to power; rather, we are asking you to empower us to bring the two opposing forces, suffering from the obsession to annihilate each other, to reconciliation. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia party, during a recent press conference.
He added that the result of this would be a government of national consensus, where all parties that enter the parliament will have a role, along with all extra-parliamentary forces that have an electorate.
“The Republic of Armenia needs national consensus governments for about 3-5 years. There has always been discord, opposition struggles, and movements within the country; however, the conditions were different at that time. When we were holding protests back then, the enemy didn’t have thousands of troops stationed in Syunik or Gegharkunik, nor was it planning to get a corridor through Zangezur. It was bad that there was no unification back then, but now to continue living in that manner... we must realize that things have changed in our life. It is extravagant to continuously have opposing poles and followers filled with hatred for each other in such a small country, ready to eliminate each other at any cost,” Marukyan said.
He emphasized that this is the context in which they say: “We are a platform, empower us, people, and we will impose this cooperation.” Edmon Marukyan elaborated that this can be imposed by the people's vote.
“If they see that the people do not support them due to their actions in the war and are tired and disappointed in them, understanding that ordinary citizens are being led into fights and chaos, if they realize and concentrate their votes, they will have to come to terms. What kind of relationships did Churchill and Stalin have? They communicated later, right? Or what kind of relationships did the former presidents of Armenia have in the past, and how do they relate now, you know. I want to say that it is possible to bring them into a common field, but the initiator should not harbor hostility against any side,” the leader of the Bright Armenia party concluded.
