In the first four months of 2021, a total of 78 individuals voluntarily surrendered to various divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh, including 57 assault rifles, 8 pistols, 3 machine guns, 5 grenade launchers, 9 rifles, 53 grenades, 42 grenade fuses, 1 mine, 98 assault rifle magazines, 2 machetes, and a total of 19,671 bullets for pistols, assault rifles, and machine guns, along with 3 fuses for grenade launchers and 1 shell, according to the Artsakh Prosecutor's Office.
“Dear compatriots, we urge you to hand over any such prohibited items to the police in case of possession. At the same time, we remind you that an individual voluntarily surrendering illegally held weapons, military ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices shall not be liable to criminal prosecution. The Prosecutor's Office also understands the motivations and intentions of citizens to keep weapons or ammunition for protection against external threats in certain cases. However, we are confident that such items, which pose a greater source of danger, should be held under state control, after examining all individual characteristics of the person requesting the right to possess or carry weapons. Therefore, we again urge cooperation with law enforcement and to surrender illegally held weapons, military ammunition, explosives, and devices that could pose a potential danger,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office on their website.
