Aliyev is convinced that Nikol will not pass, trying to take advantage of his weakness: Levon Ter-Petrosyan

There is a political and psychological issue regarding the captives. The political aspect is that Aliyev is convinced that Nikol will not win this election and, taking advantage of his weakness, is trying to extort as much as possible from him. The psychological aspect is the humiliating situation of Azerbaijan for the past 30 years. This was stated today by the first President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, during an interview with Petros Ghazaryan.

“Defeat is a heavy burden; we have just lost, and you can feel what kind of psychological state is prevailing. For 30 years, they were defeated and in a heavy psychological state, the same thing that the Armenian people are demanding from Nikol today, the people of Azerbaijan were demanding for years. After victory, I do not understand why Azerbaijan is engaging in such actions. The winning side is usually magnanimous; the winner does not hate the defeated; it is the defeated who hates the winner. This is what Aliyev should have done, but he did not,” he said.

The first president recalled that after our victory in the first Artsakh war, when both sides had captives, he unilaterally decided that captives from Azerbaijan should be returned. “Vazgen Sargsyan and Serzh Sargsyan were by my side; they said that if they do not give them back, I said, ‘calm down, I know Heydar Aliyev.’ Our captives returned on the same plane. I have answered your question; I have nothing more to add,” he said.
