Clarifications on Funeral Organization Issues

The National Assembly discussed the issue of adopting the draft amendments to the law on "Organization of Funerals and Operation of Cemeteries and Crematoria," presented by MPs Nikolay Baghdasaryan, Sergey Movsisyan, Viktor Yengibaryan, and Hovhannes Hovhannisyan in the second reading.

It is noteworthy that the proposed amendments pertain to newly created cemeteries. According to the changes, a cemetery operator will be granted a free allocation of 2.5 square meters of land (2.5 x 1.0 meters) in community cemeteries for burying the deceased.

For organizing burial in a family cemetery, the operator will be provided with up to 12.5 square meters of land (2.5 x 5 meters) free of charge in community cemeteries. The law will enter into effect on January 1, 2022, upon adoption.

MP Nikolay Baghdasaryan from the My Step faction noted that responsibility has been established in cases of repetition. He stated that if a person conducts the burial outside the cemetery premises and does not re-bury it in the cemetery area, they have added the term “again” and stipulated more severe sanctions.
