Iran Intends to Use Armenian Route as Part of North-South Corridor
The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mohammad Eslami, has announced that Iran and Armenia will hold direct negotiations to utilize the Armenian route as part of the North-South Corridor. According to Mehr news agency, Eslami made this statement at Imam Khomeini International Airport on Monday, prior to his trip to Armenia.
Highlighting the government's efforts and measures to develop trade and business relations with other countries, the Minister noted that establishing broad and valuable cooperation with the world, especially with neighboring countries, is among Iran's vital strategies.
Referring to his visit to Armenia, Eslami stated, “According to the planned agenda, officials from Iran and Armenia will engage in bilateral discussions regarding relevant issues during this visit.”
Addressing the cultural ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia, he mentioned, “In addition to the fact that some Armenians live in Iran, there exists familial and cultural connections between the two countries. Therefore, cultural interaction between the peoples and countries should be facilitated, and stronger infrastructures should be developed between the two nations for the expansion of cargo and passenger transfers.”
The use of the Armenian route for the North-South Corridor is one of the main issues that will be discussed between Iranian and Armenian officials during this visit, he added, emphasizing that this trip will also have a positive impact on the cultural, social, and economic sectors.
