Fire at Masis Landfill Causes City and Villages to be Shrouded in Smoke

On May 22, the Ararat regional crisis management center received information about a fire that broke out at the landfill of Masis city, necessitating the assistance of firefighters and rescuers for recovery operations. Two fire-fighting teams from the regional rescue service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the scene.

It was found that approximately 2 hectares of land were burning. This was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The Ministry of Environment stated that a resident of Masis city raised an alarm on Facebook about the smoke enveloping the city and nearby villages due to the landfill fire, as well as the issue of construction waste being dumped along roadsides.

“The Ministry of Environment has sent an appropriate letter to the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body of Armenia for conducting an inspection in the area, thoroughly examining the circumstances of the incident, and taking relevant measures,” the statement noted.
