Yerevan Municipality Modernizes Republic Square Fountain Water System
The Yerevan Municipality is fully modernizing the water system of the fountains in Republic Square as part of its annual program. Specialists emphasize that the goal of these underground works, which may not be visibly appealing, is not merely to install new tiles but to ensure the safety of the fountain's lighting and sound equipment. This information has been reported by the Yerevan Municipality's Information and Public Relations Department.
"The pipelines were completely damaged, and we were experiencing a water loss of about 30-40 percent at the fountain basin. This has been a long-standing issue. Water was always filling the equipment room," says Grigor Harutyunyan, head of the Construction and Improvement Department of the Yerevan Municipality.
"All servicing electrical equipment is located here alongside the computer. At any moment, due to water leakage, the equipment could be damaged, potentially causing a fire that would ruin the entire system," emphasizes Vaghshak Vaghshakyan, chief engineer of Yerevan Municipality's Water Structures LLC.
The system, which can send water of different colors and various heights and shapes, is controlled from this room, where the equipment is currently carefully packaged.
"This entire section has been excavated to a depth of 4 meters due to the deteriorated condition of the pipes, and everything has been completely restored. We are also addressing the areas where the relief did not meet the standards and where water was accumulating," notes Grigor Harutyunyan.
"A new retaining wall has been built, water insulation has been ensured, the tiles have been restored, and the water issue has been fully resolved at this point," says Narek Poghosyan, a representative of Lilanarm LLC.
The Republic Square, which has become a hallmark of the city with its exquisite architectural structure, is more attractive for the city's residents and guests during the hot months of the year thanks to its unique singing fountain. In just a few days, the fountain complex in Republic Square will begin operation.
