Passport Services to Operate on Saturdays and Sundays

In preparation for the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for June 20, the deadline for submitting registration documents by political parties and alliances to the Central Electoral Commission has been set for May 26 at 18:00. Given the tight deadline, the Passport and Visa Department of the Police and the territorial passport services will also operate on Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23, from 10:00 to 17:00.

During this period, candidates for parliament will be provided with certificates confirming their citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and permanent residence in the country, only for the last four years. No other services will be provided at the passport offices during the weekends.

Ara Mkrtchyan, head of the Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police, noted that the activity of candidates in these elections is unprecedentedly high. As of now, all units together have received 1,600 applications, around 800 of which have been responded to. A decision has been made to reject 17 applications, while the remaining applications are under review.

To ensure the process is carried out within the set timeframe and to uphold every individual’s right to participate in the elections, it has been decided to implement a shift system at all passport departments over the upcoming Saturday and Sunday.
