Nationalists Clash with Medvedchuk Supporters in Kyiv

Clashes have erupted between nationalists and supporters of Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of the political council of the "Opposition Platform – For Life" party, outside the Kyiv Court of Appeals.

According to a reporter from "RIA Novosti," several dozen individuals waving flags of the "National Corps" party and other right-wing radical political forces gathered near the courthouse, demanding the arrest of Medvedchuk.

The courthouse is heavily guarded by numerous police officers and National Guard soldiers. Only journalists and participants in the court proceedings are permitted to enter.

Medvedchuk is accused of treason. According to the prosecution, the politician transmitted information about a secret military unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Russia through his associate, Taras Kozak. The opposition figure stated in court that he has not had access to state secrets since 2004, when he served as head of the presidential administration.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that the Kyiv authorities are clearing the political field of forces that advocate for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbas and for friendly relations with Moscow.
