Motion to Imprison Mother for 11 Years for Killing Her Own Child
Today, at the first instance court of Shirak region, prosecutor Artyom Avetisyan presented a motion to imprison Anu Minasyan, a 20-year-old mother accused of murdering her own child in Gyumri, for 11 years.
“Anu Minasyan showed no affection or compassion towards her child and aimed to solve her problems by killing her baby. The act defined under the first part of Article 104 of the RA Criminal Code is considered a particularly serious crime, for which imprisonment from 8 to 15 years is stipulated. In Anu Minasyan’s case, there are no mitigating circumstances for punishment and liability. Throughout both the preliminary investigation and the trial, she expressed not a single sign of remorse for what she did. A significant aggravating circumstance is that she committed the crime against a defenseless and helpless child,” stated the prosecutor.
He submitted a motion to the court to recognize the defendant Anu Minasyan guilty based on the characteristics of the first part of Article 104 of the RA Criminal Code (intentionally depriving another person of life illegally) and to maintain her detention pending the enforcement of the court's decision.
The defense requested time for further preparation. The next court session is scheduled for June 23.
Recall that on August 31, 2019, the body of a nearly one-year-old child was discovered in a dumpster in the Boulevard neighborhood of Gyumri. Later, the Investigative Committee announced that a woman living in Gyumri had bound the hands and feet of her daughter, born in September 2018, with duct tape, wrapped her mouth with a skirt, and then transported the child to and placed her in one of the dumpsters located on the street.
According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination assigned during the preliminary investigation, the infant died of mechanical asphyxia due to obstruction of the respiratory pathways by food substances.
