EU Ambassador: It is evident from the map that a large part of Lake Sevan is located within Armenia
The Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Armenia, Andrea Victorin, spoke about the goals and impressions of her visit to the area of Lake Sevan along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The EU ambassador noted that together with other ambassadors from EU member countries, they aimed to conduct a fact-finding mission and familiarize themselves with the events occurring on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“I am grateful to Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Defense for organizing the visit,” said Victorin.
Before visiting the Lake Sevan area, the commander of the RA Armed Forces corps, Samvel Minasyan, presented to the EU countries' ambassadors a map of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1969, which was validated with documents, signatures, and seals. When a journalist inquired about her opinion on the map, the ambassador responded, “I have heard about several maps. Today, we were presented with the 1969 map. I am not an expert, and I cannot express a specific opinion, but it was evident from the map presented today that a large part of Lake Sevan is located within the territory of the Republic of Armenia.”
The EU ambassador emphasized that the European Union is using all its leverage regarding the issue and affirmed that the EU supports territorial integrity. “That says everything,” concluded the ambassador.
