Photos: The submerged village in Italy resurfaced after 70 years

Several decades ago, the submerged village of Curon in South Tyrol, Italy, has emerged from the bottom of Lake Resia. Locals were able to see it due to repair work being done on the reservoir. This was reported by the BBC.

It was noted that during the renovation, workers temporarily drained the water, which allowed the locals to see staircases, cellars, wall fragments, and stone foundations.

The village of Curon was submerged in 1950 when local authorities decided to build a dam by merging two natural lakes to create a reservoir, despite objections from local residents. As a result, more than 160 houses were submerged underwater, and their owners were provided with new housing. Some chose to remain in the newly constructed village nearby.
