Armen Sarkissian Issues Statement on Situation at Armenia's Borders

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has issued a statement regarding the situation at Armenia's borders.

“Dear compatriots,

In these days, our attention is understandably focused on our borders. Azerbaijani armed forces have violated the borders of the Republic of Armenia in Syunik and Gegharkunik and have been illegally present in our territory for several days now.

In the current situation, it is particularly important for the state and state structures to take unconditional responsibility for pulling the country out of this crisis, especially concerning security issues.

I urge the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, the Armed Forces General Staff, and the National Security Service to make every effort within their capacities and to take the strictest measures against encroachments and violations that threaten the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

Equally important is the use of our diplomatic arsenal to its fullest. Strengthening Armenia's international reputation and deepening collaboration and alliance with international partners is a necessity. These relationships should be built on a realistic and targeted agenda.

We must mobilize both traditional and public diplomacy tools, involve the Diaspora, and utilize all resources at our disposal.

The current situation, as well as our actions and responses, must be understandable and perceivable to our international partners. The public must be timely and accurately informed about the ongoing processes, being confident that they are protected and that the state, regardless of political or other factors, is fulfilling its functions.

Dear compatriots,

In this situation, the imperative of national unity is once again emphasized—Armenia, Artsakh, and the Diaspora. Only then can we address security, economic, internal political, and all other issues.

We must recognize that we have one border—the border of our Motherland. As a state and a nation, we must have one nationwide and national agenda. Each of us, in Armenia, Artsakh, and the Diaspora, must act within that unified agenda. Only a strong, stable, united, and cohesive Armenia can represent and defend the interests of Armenia, Artsakh, and the Armenian people,” he stated.
