Trial of Captured Lebanese-Armenian Vigen Euljekchyan Begins in Azerbaijan
The trial of Lebanese-Armenian Vigen Euljekchyan has begun in Azerbaijan, as reported by Sputnik Azerbaijan. He is facing charges of 'mercenarism', 'terrorism', and 'illegal crossing of Azerbaijan's state border'. The Azerbaijani side has released a video with Euljekchyan's 'confessions'. The investigation is being conducted by the Azerbaijani State Security Service.
The charges against Euljekchyan are based solely on his self-incriminating testimony. It is known that Euljekchyan received Armenian citizenship in 2015 and moved first to Yerevan and then to Shushi in 2019. On November 10, 2020, Azerbaijani soldiers captured him and Maral Najaryan. Najaryan was later released with the mediation of the Russian side.
