VIDEO: Arson After Theft to Distract Law Enforcement - Police Investigation
On May 12th, a fire broke out in the administrative building of a fish farm in Surenavan village. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene alongside officers from the Ararat police division following an emergency call. One of the offices was ablaze.
After extinguishing the fire, efforts were made to determine the causes and circumstances of the incident, when another emergency call was received regarding the same fish farm later that evening.
The director had used technical means to open the door of the iron safe located in the burned office and discovered that half a million drams had been stolen from it.
Upon receiving the report, criminal investigators took immediate action. By correlating facts obtained from the scene with operational information, it became clear that the theft may have been committed by the fish farm's security chief.
The suspect, a 30-year-old resident of Ararat village, presented himself to the Ararat police division due to the explanatory work of law enforcement.
Further investigation revealed that the security chief had opened the safe with a key, stolen the money, and set fire to the office to create the impression of an accidental fire rather than a burglary.
The apprehended man has provided a confession. The investigation is ongoing.
