VIDEO: 'I do not comment on every nonsense,' says Judiciary Council President regarding leaked recording
“I do not comment on every nonsense,” stated Ruben Vardazaryan, the President of the Judiciary Council (currently suspended), in an interview with “Pastiinfo,” addressing a recording that has circulated online, in which it is alleged that Judge Armen Bekhtashyan of the Court of Appeals recounts a phone conversation in which Vardazaryan supposedly provides directions regarding the case of Vahagn Abgaryan, an individual viewed as a criminal authority known as 'Alaverdi Vahag,' aiming for his release.
As previously reported, Ruben Vardazaryan has been charged by the Investigative Committee under the third part of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Armenia for obstructing the administration of justice using his official position, and a measure of restraint has been applied to him in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
A criminal case has been initiated against Vardazaryan based on a report from former judge and newly appointed Deputy Director of the NSS Andranik Simonian, without overcoming his parliamentary immunity.
It should be noted that although the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia stated that there was no issue with overcoming Vardazaryan's functional immunity since the criminal prosecution is not related to the exercise of his powers as a judge, it is a fact that the criminal case has been initiated under the characteristics of obstructing the administration of justice via the use of an official position.
