Snow Observed in Almost All Mountainous Regions of the Republic

The Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Center of Armenia reports that, as forecasted, snow was observed in almost all mountainous regions of the republic during the night of May 9 to May 10. In some areas, a snow cover has formed as well. This phenomenon was caused by a cold atmospheric front that penetrated from the Black Sea regions, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures.

Last night, the temperature in the Ashotzk region dropped to -6 degrees Celsius, while in Amassia and Tsaghkadzor it was -3 degrees, and in Tashir, Gyumri, and Artik it stood at 0 degrees Celsius.

On May 10, 2020, a similar sharp drop in temperature was observed in the republic, with some mountainous areas experiencing light snow, although this event was much milder and more localized compared to the current phenomenon.

The most severe snowstorm recorded in the mountainous regions of Armenia occurred on June 20, 1986, when 20-30 cm of snow fell at altitudes of 2200 meters and above, causing significant damage to farms located in mountainous pastures during that period.
