Karvachar-Vardenis Road Business Owners Face Losses
According to official information provided to me, the turnover of several businesses located along the Karvachar-Vardenis highway has decreased by 80 percent, including pharmacies, food establishments, gas stations, hotels, filling stations, shops, and others. This was announced by MP Taguhi Tovmasyan during a special session of the National Assembly, addressing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"I had expected some form of support from the government for these business sectors. After the handover of Karvachar, regardless of their will, people are facing the prospect of endangering or losing their businesses," she stated, noting that this concerns several hundred employees who remain or have already become unemployed.
Nikol Pashinyan responded that a significant program has been initiated since the previous year related to the restoration of the road ring around Lake Sevan, which is set to be completed this year. "I am also confident that there will be tourist flows there, and turnovers will not only be restored but also increased. Discussions are being held regarding the road map I published; this matter is also debatable," he said, emphasizing that the subjective nature of such situations and the characteristics of the objects should be thoroughly studied and researched.
Taguhi Tovmasyan replied that most of these businesses were acquired or built with loans, and citizens have credit obligations and cannot remain in this situation for long.
