I Delivered Letters from Parents of Armenian Prisoners to Angela Merkel Addressed to Germany, Says Zohrebian

There is a genuine interest within the European Council to resolve the issue of Armenian prisoners. This was stated today, on May 10, during a meeting with journalists by NA member of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Naira Zohrebian.

“Currently, Germany is presiding over the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and I have delivered letters from the parents of Armenian prisoners addressed to Germany to Chancellor Angela Merkel because Germany is the country that has seen prisoners and has held Jews captive and they have a sense of genetic guilt. I greatly appreciate the speech of the German Foreign Minister when the Azerbaijani representative, who considers me a nationalist terrorist, said that Armenians do not return the maps of mined areas. The minister responded, ‘stop, do not try to manipulate, you will solve the issue of prisoners of war.’ I have cautious optimism that Azerbaijan will return a certain number of prisoners of war within the next month,” she stated.

According to Zohrebian, several parents have met with her and insist that certain individuals are calling them from their Iranian and Armenian numbers, providing details about the servicemen and stating which Iranian village the military unit is located in. “The story seemed strange to me. I contacted our extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador in Iran, Artashes Tumanyan, and the embassy is now working with the parents. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also working on this issue, and the clear response is that there is no such thing. We have decided to hold a video conference with the Iranian embassy, and the parents will receive answers to their questions,” Zohrebian emphasized.
