Former Officials Will Not Come to Power Regardless, as They Have Nothing New to Propose - Marukyan
According to Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the “Enlightened Armenia” parliamentary faction, if representatives of the former government participate in the upcoming snap elections, it would be an indirect support to Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“I have said that if the former authorities have an agenda for a change of power in the country, then they should withdraw from the process. Because the revolution has just happened, and if the people see their active participation, they will, in that sense, support Nikol Pashinyan. You can also see this from the results of the polls,” said Marukyan.
During a meeting with journalists, Edmon Marukyan mentioned that the television channels belonging to representatives of the former government have blocked their airtime in front of him, and these individuals have not yet come to power but have already imposed restrictions.
He also noted that the former officials will not come to power regardless, as they have nothing new to propose. Referring to the 2018 change of power, he stated that the people made a revolution having 27 years of grievances, while in the three years since, Nikol Pashinyan has shown that he is unable to fulfill his responsibilities.
Marukyan emphasized that the former head of the NSS is currently supporting Serzh Sargsyan, while the former police chief supports Robert Kocharyan, and these are the individuals appointed by Nikol Pashinyan.
He stated that they are the alternative that the people should choose. Marukyan accused television channels and websites of asking random individuals from other political forces during surveys while cutting off their share. He noted that analysts who do not give them a chance are simply being paid by other political forces.
According to Marukyan, those analysts who claim that the existence of the state is at stake are not the ones he is debating with; rather, it is Nikol Pashinyan, who has failed his governance. He stated that Pashinyan is pushing away all smart people from his side and does not want intelligent individuals to be around him. He declared that “Enlightened Armenia” is the only force that has announced it will not form a coalition.
“We will form the majority in the elections, and they will have to adapt to that,” Marukyan announced.
