Kim Kardashian Accused of Illegally Importing Roman Sculpture to the U.S.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian, known from "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," has found herself at the center of a smuggling scandal, according to the Daily Mail.

The publication details that in 2016, customs officials seized a portion of an ancient Roman statue by sculptor Miron, which arrived in the U.S. as part of a shipment valued at $750,000 under Kardashian's name.

It is reported that the limestone statue arrived in Los Angeles in 2016 while Kardashian and her then-husband Kanye West were renovating their home in Calabasas, but it was confiscated by customs officials.

Five years after the seizure, last week, U.S. authorities filed a civil lawsuit regarding the “forfeiture of property.” Besides Kardashian, the documents also mention prominent Belgian designer and antique dealer Axel Vervoordt, who was responsible for the renovations in Kardashian's home.

Kardashian has denied any involvement in smuggling. Her representative stated that “Kim did not purchase the statue and her name may have been used to facilitate its shipment without her permission.” She encourages the investigation and hopes that the sculpture will be returned to its legal owners.
